Archbishop Tagle: Discernment is a choice between two goods not good and evil

Archbishop Chito Tagle shares the story of St. Ignatius and how he founded the Society of Jesus.  More importantly he also discusses the Spiritual Exercises.

Archbishop Chito, goes on further and explains that the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius lead us to conquer oneself and to regulate one’s life in such a way that no decision is made under the influence of any inordinate attachment.  This aims to develop within the individual the capacity for “Discretio” or Discernment.

Personally, I was struck with how he described DISCERNMENT. It is the ability to distinguish between the many options the world offers and to choose according to the will of God.  Ergo, Discernment is between two goods, not between good and evil.
