This year, the Apostolic Nunciature chose June 25, thursday to hold its annual traditional celebration of the solemnity of St. Peter and St. Paul, better known as the Pope’s Day.
This celebration seems to always fall on a thursday which is unfortunate for me as my car is on coding. Last year, left the house early to be able to reach Taft Ave before 3pm. I waited for almost four hours near the Nuncio’s place. Luckily, the place is located in Manila where a few hours window from late morning to early afternoon is allowed “coded” cars.

Since I had been exhaused the past days I fell asleep again so missed leaving the house early. I took the risk and left shortly after 6pm so reached the venue by 7pm. I was already late since the invitation is 630pm cocktails but I was able to catch the speech of His Excellency and the Vin d’honneur.
Beside His Excellency, Archbishop John J. Adams, Apostolic Nuncio is Ricardo J..Cardinal Vidal and DFA Asst. Secretary Bataclan.
Since my trusty digital camera conked out I just took the photos here from my phone camera. However I asked Fr. Levi to send me some of his photos from his digitalcam.
God is good and I am sure St. Peter and Paul made sure typhoon Feria would never touch Manila so as not to spoil this event.
As a matter of fact, His Excellency and the sisters told me perhaps St. Claire stormed the heavens to pray for this day. We all mentioned the tradition in this country of sending eggs to the convent of St. Claire so the cloistered nuns will pray for a sunny day for a aparticular day.
Apparently the Nunciature gardens had a statue of St. Claire so she saved the evening. It would have been difficult to fit everyone inside the reception hall. Usually the crowd spills to the gardens where the drinks and desserts are located.
The traditional pastas are always served with our local lechon but this year I noticed they also served some vege-meat - imitation chicken and beef since our brother muslims and other religions do not eat meat. Lucky for me as I also do not so enjoyed the new fare.
All the meals in the Nunciature are prepared by the in house staff. They never hire any caterer. This has been the practice for the longest time. My late parents and I had been attending private and public events in this place but never was anything lavish done.
Ever since I had been attending alone in such events in the Nunciature (usually Pope’s Day and Christmas), I usually leave late, when the party is over unlike when I was with Dad, he usually likes to leave early.
Perhaps I wanted to spend some extra time with the people close to my parents, namely the nunciature staff, the sisters, my friends from the Focolare specially Mariella and other religious. Arch. Adams is the ninth Nuncio in my lifetime although I met only seven of them. Below is the last photo I took before I left the party.

I receive a regular email subscription from Inside the Vatican. However as I receive tons of daily alerts I am only able to scan through them except this time as the opening article caught my attention and read it all.
It is something real which explains that which maybe difficult to expound to a marian non believer, and other tenets of the Catholic Church - but something which one like me profoundly understands without the need for wordy descriptions. For me its a grace which is a blessing and hope to share with the world.
Some people undermine the role of Mary so this maybe an eye opener or something which may help us verbalize the belief. I would like to show its link here however it seems this article is not yet online so I have to show it in whole.

Thanks to my visit to St. Pio’s chapel, I remembered that it would have been the feast of the Sacred Heart which was yesterday. I then looked for the prayer which St. Pio recited daily and that was I prayed everyday and made sure I heard mass during His feast.
My family has a special devotion to the Sacred Heart. In fact we were fortunate enough to have visited the place where He appeared a couple of times.

It was the feast of St. Anthony de Padua last saturday (June 13). He is one of my favorite saints, always there to help me with my problems. Sadly though due current challenges and some meetings, I just remembered that evening when all the masses have ended. I felt so bad but said my private devotions.
I vowed to post a blog about him as I was fortunate enough to visit where he was born in Lisbon and where he died, in Padua, not only once but a couple of times.

Last friday, I had a late morning appointment in Marikina. As we were an hour early by the time we reach Libis, my friend suggested we visit the chapel of St. Pio just in the vicinity.

Apparently it was located within a paid parking lot so we told the person in the toll booth we will only visit the chapel for five mins so we don’t need to pay. Times are hard.

May has always been considered the month of our Blessed Mother Mary. It is my birth month that was why I was named after her and her mother.
During this month, Santa Cruzans are held in various cities of the country.
The Santacruzan was a novena procession commemorating St. Helena’s mythical finding of the cross. St. Helena was the mother of Constantine the Great. According to legends, 300 years after the death of Christ, at the age of 75, she went to Calvary to conduct a search for the Cross. After some archeological diggings at the site of the Crucifixion, she unearthed three crosses. She tested each one by making a sick servant lie on all three. The cross where the servant recovered was identified as Christ’s. St. Helena’s feast day falls on August 8 but the anniversary of the finding of the Cross is on May 3rd, in the Philippines, this celebration took the form of the Mexican Santa Cruz de Mayo.
